Celebrating the Old West, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center interprets the west throughout its 5 distinct museums. The Plains Indian Museum tells the significant story of the lives of Plains Indian peoples; The Buffalo Bill Museum documents the extraordinary life of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody; The Draper Museum of Natural History provides an in-depth look at the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem with interactive exhibits, programs and field trips; The Whitney Gallery of Western Art present visitors an opportunity to experience the west through art; The Cody Firearms Museum houses the most extensive collection of firearms in the world. The BBHC is open year-round.

 

Buffalo Bill Dam Visitor Center, Cody, WyomingBuffalo Bill Dam & Visitor Center

On its completion in 1910 the Buffalo Bill Dam (then called the Shoshone Dam) was the tallest dam in the world. The story of the dam's construction, and its importance to the growth and development of the Big Horn Basin are presented at the Visitor Center. Free of charge; gift shop; open daily May through September.

 

Old Trail Town, Cody, WyomingOld Trail Town / Museum of the Old West

Historic Trail Town is a collection of 26 buildings and relics of the Wyoming frontier. Step back in time and stroll the town's boardwalk to see an old saloon, livery barn, blacksmith shop, general stores, post office and schools, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's "Hole-in-the-Wall" cabin. See over 100 horse drawn vehicles and the original wagon trail. Visit the Museum of the Old West and Old Trail Town mid-May through September.


Tecumseh's Miniature MuseumTecumseh's Miniature Village & Museum

Thousands of miniature figures are displayed in the incredible diorama display. The display traces the history of Wyoming and Montana from the 1600s to the late 1890s. Owner Jerry Fick has spent a lifetime collecting and making the figures that make up the display. The museum section of the complex includes thousands of Western and Indian artifacts, including full size wildlife mounts, guns of the Frontier and fur trade artifacts. The museum is open daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. mid-May through mid-September. During the winter season hours vary so call ahead. Admission is free.
